How to Be Happy and Live the Zen Life

Whether you’re overwhelmed by financial troubles or bummed about some serious health issues, there are a few things you can do to make yourself happy each and every day. Sometimes you may feel it is impossible to change your mood or change your life. You have to remember though, it’s up to you to get your life where it should be. It’s entirely possible to follow a few easy steps to happiness and change your mood within a matter of minutes. Here’s where to start.

1. Take a walk. Exercise naturally boosts our endorphins, making our happy juices run wild. Take a ten minute brisk walk to rev up your metabolism and make your mood a little better. Spend a few minutes of your lunch break each day outside in the sunshine taking a walk and enjoying some time away from the office.

2. Make a list of all the good things in your life. Take a few minutes to write down all the things in your life that are going the right way. Include things you are thankful for and things that you have learned. Focus on the list of a few minutes and realize that you are special.

3. Give a friend a call. Catch up with someone that you haven’t seen for a while. Remind yourself that you are not alone in your problems. Keeping in touch with friends gives you a better state of reality and helps you keep in mind the really important things.

4. Do a good deed. Doing good things for others naturally makes us feel better. Even something as simple as bringing someone in your family an unexpected cup of hot chocolate can help you to feel better about yourself.

5. Do something that you’ve been putting off. Getting a dreaded chore out of the way goes a long way in improving your mental state. You can check one more thing off of that to-do list!

6. Give yourself some peace and quiet. Clear out your area of unneeded junk and create a calmer living space. This will help you to clear out your mind as well.

7. Give yourself something to look forward to. Make plans for something fun and write them down. This will help you to anticipate a little fun in your life.

8. Engage your sense of humor. Put on a funny movie or watch something funny online. Each time you smile, your mood brightens and you will be on your way to internal happiness.

Doing these simple things each day will help you to live a happier and healthier life. Keep in mind all the good things that have happened to you and it will be hard to have a negative attitude every day. Make a journal or a scrapbook of all the things that are good about your life. Include pictures, snippets of pages you enjoy, poetry or notes from loved ones. This is a great way to look back over your life and enjoy everything that has happened.
